Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior political figure said the incident left him without words and required to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in 2020.
