The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Whenever a prominent awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a clamor to include of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

My colleague made the case for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and it will always spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies steer clear of genre categories. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications actually cover many game types, and you can find room for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated completely that year
  • Another imaginative release missed out in 2019
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, however the design in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences in the world and have been for many years.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers are working at the hard edge game development, creating some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Comparable to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
